Jordan, my wife, is at the kitchen table, surrounded by sheets of paper.

She’s revising for an exam. Her notes in her hand, her head tilted slightly to the left, eyes looking up and right trying to remember the definition of Project Management.

How?

Practice.

Try these exercises daily and you too could be a great writer.

Copywork the words of your idols by hand. Slowly. Meticulously. This will seep their style and words in your mind.

Set up an email for a loved one, a friend, or anyone, then write to them, sharing stories, advice, and knowledge. Take 15 minutes per day and say something to them. Anything.

Synthesise existing work. Take an article and cut it down to 1/4 of its size (200 words becomes 50) without sacrificing the meaning. Eddie Shleyner says Wikipedia entries are perfect for this.

Repeat these often. Over and over and over. Then one day, you’ll get it.
